Sophie ReedGraduate Student
Sophie Pardo Reed graduated with highest honors in History and Judaic Studies from the University of Michigan. Her honors thesis, "A Weighty Legacy: Camp Shane and American Jewish Body Image," explored the ethnoreligious dimensions of the most famous weight loss camp in United States History and received the John A. Williams Award for Best Thesis in US History. Her interdisciplinary research sociohistorically contextualizes the phenomenon of culturally-mediated eating disorders and body image in minority populations in the US across the 20th century. She is interested in race and ethnicity, media studies, women and gender studies with a focus on health, disability studies, cultural history, American studies, and archives. Outside of her research, Sophie loves to cook, see stand-up shows, and read on the beach.
