Yerbol MunaiGraduate Student
Yerbol Munai is a PhD student in the Department of History, specializing in the modern history of Central Asia, with a focus on the Kazakh and other Central Asian Turkic communities in the early 20th century. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Kazakh Language and Literature and a master’s degree in Turkology from Minzu University of China. He also pursued doctoral studies in Turkology at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Kazakhstan. Fluent in Chinese, Kazakh, and Russian, and trained in Old Turkic, Old Uighur, and Chagatai scripts, Yerbol works with a wide range of multilingual sources from Chinese, Russian, and Turkic archives. His research examines the social, cultural, linguistic, and political transformations experienced by Turkic communities during the turbulent period following the collapse of the Qing dynasty and the Russian Empire, situating local experiences within broader regional and global contexts.
