My research focuses on the social history of narcotics abuse in the American South. I am primarily interested in how drug prevention and control policies were formulated and instituted on the state and local level and what regional political/social factors shaped these policies. My master’s thesis explored these concepts in 1970’s Virginia, paying special attention to how statewide political realignment, a growing grassroots rehabilitation movement, and regionally specific social issues effected both drug policy and the spatial dynamics of drug rehabilitation.
