Bruna Digiacomo Cerveira CoutinhoGraduate Student

I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I have a BA and a MA in History from UFF - Universidade Federal Fluminense (Federal Fluminense University). I study History in order to understand the core reasons for the inequality that plagues my country. I began studying Economic History in order to understand and eventually help to diminish inequality in Brazil.

To be more specific, I launched my research on a particular British firm, Francis Le Breton, in order to understand how capitalism (and with it new forms of radical inequality) spread from one side of the Atlantic to the other. During the PhD, I am expanding the focus of my research to investigate the changes that British companies’ presence in Brazil made in the everyday lives of Brazilians in the 19th century.
